¡El 大 Fêtegäßle!
Culture Pure!!! A collaboration of the World Languages Department's Clubs once a year in a friendly taste test competition. A gathering of the French, Mandarin, Spanish, and German Clubs.
Each club chooses an authentic culturally appropriate dish to prepare from scratch in the given 2 hour time frame. A total of 10 students from each club may participate. We would like to thank FCS Department and their students for allowing us to use their kitchens.
The students create the shopping list for the sponsor to buy from club funds. Students may also decide on menu, presentation, service design, and decorations.
The students, with supervision and guidance from the club sponsors, prepare the foods from start to finish. They learn ingredients, supplies, cooking vocabulary, as well as some cooking skills and strategies. For some students, this is their first cooking experience!
Then all who participate and the invited judges are able to try all of the foods. The students and judges gather and discuss how the foods look, taste, and were prepared. They share experiences in cooking and about the culture.
Afterwards all kitchens are cleaned up and put back in order for the food teams that will arrive the next morning.
All present have the chance to vote and put their opinion on the ballots. The ballots are counted and the results are shared at the Induction Ceremony in April. The winning club is then commemorated on the WL ¡El 大 Fêtegäßle! Plaque that is in the J-Wing display case.
We would like to thank our guest judges and all the participating students for doing an amazing job, sharing their cultural knowledge, and trying new things! We would also like to thank the club sponsors: Sr Ramos, Mme Whitlock, Lǎoshī Liu, and Frau Hog.
